Sam Pasupalak was Co-Founder and CEO of Maluuba, a Canadian artificial intelligence company based in the AI epicenter of Montréal, until his successful sale of the company to Microsoft for $150M. Sam founded Maluuba with the vision to solve Artificial General Intelligence by creating literate machines that can think, reason and communicate like humans. Maluuba opened its deep learning facility which has grown to become one of the world’s premiere labs applying deep and reinforcement learning techniques to solve fundamental problems in language understanding research. The Microsoft acquisition of the company allowed it to bring its capabilities in machine comprehension, advanced conversational systems and reinforcement learning to Microsoft Research. Sam has re-entered academia and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Political Science and Philosophy at the London School of Economics, much to his parents' relief.
